Where we build extensions

If your part of the city, town or village is on this list, we cover it. If it is not, call us anyway: it is probably just down the road from one that is.

Peterborough

The city itself, from the Victorian terraces near the centre to the townships built in the 1970s and 80s and the newer estates on the southern edge.

Local knowledge

Why a local builder helps

An extension in Werrington is not the same job as one in Thorney. The townships were built to standard designs on good ground, so the work is mostly about matching brick and roof pitch. Out on the fen the soil moves with the seasons, and in the stone villages along the Nene the planners take a close interest in materials.

We work across all of it, so the quote you get from us allows for the ground, the access and the rules where you live.

FAQs

Questions about the areas we cover

Do you build property extensions outside Peterborough?

Yes. As well as the city we cover the villages and towns around it, including Eye, Thorney, Whittlesey, Yaxley, Glinton, the Deepings and Crowland, and we travel further across Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire for the right job.

Where is Hammondsmith Property Maintenance based?

We are based in Eye, a village on the north-east side of Peterborough. We come to you to look at the job, so there is no office or showroom to visit. Call 07518 478232 to arrange a visit.

Is planning different in the villages around Peterborough?

It can be. Villages such as Thorney, Castor, Ailsworth and Wansford have conservation areas, where side extensions, cladding and two-storey rear extensions all need planning permission. The council changes too: most villages here come under Peterborough City Council, but Yaxley and Farcet are in Huntingdonshire, Whittlesey is in Fenland, the Deepings are in South Kesteven and Crowland is in South Holland.

Do ground conditions around Peterborough affect an extension?

They can. Much of the land east of the city, around Eye, Thorney, Newborough and Whittlesey, is fen: clay, silt and peat that shrink and swell as they dry out and wet up. Foundations may need to go deeper or be designed by an engineer, and building control will want to see the trench before the concrete goes in. It is one reason we look at the site before we quote.
